Final cut of the video

This is the final edit for our video which we feel is the best possible version after the feedback we have received. We changed the footage needed where the actress was not emphasising the lyrics enough. We also changed the shots at the start of the chorus so they are at a much faster pace in time with the beat rather than the longer shots given on our previous video. Flashes where given also in order to show relation from the video to the beats of the song. We give the video a more professional image by strtching the shots with lines at the top and bottom of the screen so that all the footage was the same size and towards the end of the footage at the fastest part of the song having the footage smoothly change. We also added the logo at the end of the video to give brand identity so that people are familiar with the compony and how it relates to the artist.

Digipak-Final products

These are the final panels we have chosen for our digipak, this shows the six available plus the cd which are in black and white to add a sophistication that we feel was shown within the video. We tried to keep a theme going on by the actress being visible as often as possible and wearing similar clothing, makeup and hair styles. The features needed for a typical digipak is given and the panels are simple to understand yet interesting and fitting in with the video.

Final Advert

This is our final advert which would be shown in a magazine promoting Pixie Lotts album and the video so that people are able to easily access our website and blog to view the video which will help with the advertisement of the video and cd digipak. The colours and the fonts fit with the digipak by being the same and the artist is directly shown wearing an outfit the same as the key outfit in the video linking the three products together and creating an identity brand.

Evaluation questions

1.In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our video shows various examples of typical conventions for the genre that we have chosen which is pop. Our central singer follows the typical conventions of pop by being an attractive female, which will attract the male gaze showing Laura Mulveys theory in which the video is seen from a male perspective and the female is shown provocatively in order to attract the viewer. She is shown wearing fashionable and interesting clothing to fit the right criteria for a typical pop artist which will not only attract the male gaze but keep the viewer entertained with different styles. These include a varied amount of dresses whilst in the bar and at home and outfits which relate to each key setting which the viewer will be able to relate them too for example (a bikini for the hot tub scenes, sophisticated work clothes during the work scenes and a fashionable fur coat during the car scenes.) The video shows various long shots, close ups and medium shots to keep the viewer entertained and creates emphasis on the artist, location and emotions. The movements and lip sync fit the genre and show a relevant relation to the song that helps create a link for the viewers visually with the sound. Our video has a varied amount of locations which each fit the genre distinctively and help with the narrative by giving the impression our singer is at a party using various props to demonstrate this. For example the use of the car, hot tub and bar giving the impression of a wild party night with the indication that “it’s all about tonight”. Our video shows relation to Carol Vernallis’s theory through her saying that the narrative is shown through a montage style in which we show by flipping from various scenes and locations throughout the video. Examples of this montage theme are shown in videos such as Katy Perrys "Last Friday Night" and Rihannas "We Found Love" which show a narrative within a montage and flip from various locations which always contain the main actress and reveal varied parts of the plot and reveal the narrative. We also used ideas from "Last Friday Night" and the video "Its All About Tonight" by Pixie Lott herself to gain inspiration for the narrative of a "party type going having a good time" setting. Throughout our video we show Andrew Goodwins theory in the sense that the shots are cut to the beat of the music and speed up during the chorus having more fast paced shots when the beat is at its quickest. Our video also shows transitions in appropriate places which fit to the genre and indicate a relation to the beats. Our video shows an illustration approach for a typical pop video by having a mixture of both narrative and performance in a straightforward yet interesting way.

2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? Our three ancillary texts show a strong brand identity link throughout with the use of our central actress being visible in each text. She has the same styling, makeup and hair throughout all three texts wearing similar clothing. Her hair, though styled in slightly different ways is always waved and she is seen to wear the key black dress throughout each three ancillary texts. Both the advert and digipak are in a black and white theme which we thought would give a professional look with the sophisticated element which we feel is shown throughout the video. The same text is used for both the digipak and advert containing the typical information for each such as the barcode, logo and kimtag so that the video product is promoted. The compony logo is also shown at the end of the video so that each product is shown to be part of our company and the same brand. Our products relate to the narrative by having a theme which plays on the words of the song "Its all about tonight" by having a night theme of dark grey and black backgrounds. This is furthered by having a cloudy night sky for the background of the cd and stars around the text in the advert (things typically related to night which reflects the narrative.) The actress is often centrally focused and the name of both the artist and album name are shown on the digipak and advert so that the viewers associate the artist with each name and the song. The digipak has the typical conventions of a digipak by having a front cover showing the artist, back cover with a song list and inside frames where a cd will fit and a thank you page is available creating a personal level with the viewer. The advert shows typical conventions of an advert by showing the release date of the album and album information attract the viewer into buying the album such as the blog information and contact details. The video and advert link by stating that the album features the song itself and gives information into viewing the video.

3. What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
All the audience research we have received will be given on a video from both youtube and our facebook channel then we will go through the video and the changes made from the feedback learning what worked and what didn't for our genre.

4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? Our project has used various forms of technologies in order to develop and reach the best possible end products which we can. In order to form our ancillary texts we began to research products of a similar genre (pop) through technologies such as youtube and blogger and google in order to gain information on the typical conventions of our music video, the type of things found in pop videos and what the videos consist of. Typically we found various conventions by analyzing videos appropriate to the genre on youtube and focusing on the pace, shot type and location to gather as much information as possible which we then posted on our blogs as evidence. We did this through taking screen shots of video stills and discussing the techniques used. We also looked at suitable digipaks which fit the genre and noted the typical conventions of them looking at the colour themes and information on it which we took screen shots of such as "Avril Lavinges The Best Damn Things" album. We also researched magazine adverts and covers through google and noted the key points putting the findings in various prezi documents. Adverts which are associated with pop artists such as "Katy Perry" and "Lady Gaga" keeping with the theme. Once we had found the actress and decided on the song we began taking test shots for locations and outfits which we put into a powerpoint and posted on our blog. We created an animatic in Imovie so that we were clear of the exact shots we needed and then began to film. In order to promote our video we used media technologies such as a kimtag which could be found for advertising in which once scanned can take viewers straight to our youtube channel and blog where the video would be located. We filmed in the different locations with a hd camera and tripod in which afterwards we uploaded to "finalcut" and used to create the final video. We uploaded the song to final cut and used the video of our animatic to help us complete our video, having when filming recorded the song so that the lip sync would be exact. In final cut we used tools such as colour corrector in order to have the work scenes in black and white, the distorting tool to create each piece of footage to the full screen to show consistency and the razor tool in order to cut down the pieces of footage in order to create fast paced shots to fit the pace of the song. This razor tool also helped to show the beats of the song by cutting a clip into small sections which we show three times throughout the video when the music is appropriate. We used transitions when appropriate to go from each piece of footage so that the video runs smoothly and flows. We also changed the lighting on a clip to the brightest possible as we felt it was appropriate. When thinking about our digipak and advert we used a stills camera which we uploaded and from the designs we had already created we made each in photoshop. We also then created a facebook channel for our company in order to gain information about our video and feedback in order to improve it. We created various prezis and videos for our evaluation in order to show our progress in an inventive and efficient way

Flyers-Promotional

These are promotional flyers which will be handed out for promotional purposes in towns and cities around the uk. It has a similar theme to our advert and digipak and continues with photos from our photoshoot in a collage which we think shows representation of the album name "Young Foolish Happy." These flyers are an add on to our three products in order to take the promotion a step further and the project more realistic.

Ancillary Text Feeback

Strengths so far:Our audience commented on the colour and use of images saying they look professional which is good as we took a lot of time to make our photo shoot look as professional as possible with a varied amount of shots and images to use. They also commented on the link throughout saying that all the text matches and there is a clear link throughout.
Areas for improvement: They commented on how we need to finish the inside shots and how certain texts near the barcode are out of place. They noted that images should blend in more on the inside page with smoother edges to make the product look in more relation to the genre. They said the brand identity was quite effective as the digipak and video link in well having the same main character with the same style for both and the brand logo present for both.

We do agree with the feedback given as we know that the digipak is not finished yet. We will have to improve on our image masking so that the edges are smoother and we will have to make an advert to go with the other two products and keep the brand identity.
